Portuguese renewables company Greenvolt Group has signed an agreement with China's BYD Energy Storage to develop up to 400 MW/1. 6 GWh of battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Poland.
As expected, Poland's latest capacity market auctions have highlighted a significant shift towards the battery energy storage systems (BESS) beside the fact that the de-rating factor has been significantly decreased.
How many GWh of Bess projects will be built in Poland?
March 6, 2025: Greenvolt Power and BYD Energy Storage have agreed plans to develop up to 1.6 GWh of BESS projects in Poland.
Through in-depth cooperation with Greenvolt Power, BYD Energy Storage will support Poland's energy transition in a flexible, efficient, and economical manner, injecting new vitality into the energy storage markets in Europe and globally.
Who is BYD energy storage?
Greenvolt Group, through Greenvolt Power, a company specializing in utility-scale wind, solar and energy storage projects, has signed an agreement with BYD Energy Storage, one of the largest suppliers of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) based in China.
The capacity obligations for these projects ranged from 1.2 MW to 153 MW rated power, with an average capacity of around 30 MW. The decision to reduce the de-rating factor for energy storage systems in the last capacity market auction in Poland from 95 percent to 61 percent did not prove detrimental to the market.
Both projects have secured capacity market contracts and are scheduled to begin deliveries in 2028. The agreement with BYD Energy Storage strengthens our commitment to developing and executing energy storage projects, which are essential for maximizing the integration of renewable energy.
