New energy storage high voltage box

In an electric car, the high-voltage box is the highly integrated battery charger and power supply control center. It charges the vehicle battery at an AC charging point, such as public and private charging stations.

At this year's The Smarter E trade fair, BYD Energy Storage introduced a new home battery system known as Battery-Box HVB, or high voltage Blade. The residential battery marks the fourth generation of its home storage systems first introduced in 2015.

One 2.97 kWh module weighs 27.3 kg, and is IP55 rated. HVB delivers significant gains in energy density, with gravimetric energy density rising to 108.8 Wh/kg, a 49.9% increase over the previous HVM system, while volumetric energy density rises to 162.88 Wh/L, a 139.7% improvement.

BYD claimed it holds the top spot in Germany for residential energy storage products and is in the top three in Europe, with more than 12 GWh shipped globally. The headline change is the use of the Blade Battery format, a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cell design developed by BYD.

The HVB starts at 5.9 kWh with two battery modules and goes to 29.6 kWh with 10 modules stacked. Three can be used in parallel for a maximum capacity of 89.07 kWh. The system can deliver 25.6 kW (at 50 A max) with a peak output of 50.18 kW (at 98A for 15) seconds. One 2.97 kWh module weighs 27.3 kg, and is IP55 rated.
