Offsite solar power generation system

An offsite solar system is not located on the purchaser's property but still allows the purchaser to benefit from the renewable energy it produces in the form of credits that are used to offset their facility's energy costs.

Regardless of the exact method, participating in offsite solar can have upsides similar to onsite. While both offsite and onsite options offer project structuring with no upfront installation costs and provide renewable energy at a fixed cost, the two system types ultimately can offer their own distinct benefits.

Off-site renewables generally require an agreement with an outside utility. Both on- and off-site projects can include but are not limited to solar farms, biomass, landfill gas, hydro, and wind, depending on their geographic location and resource availability. Many benefits exist for both on- and off-site systems.

They also don't work everywhere as solar and wind resource varies from location to location, as well as incentives and rebates. Large energy consumers are increasingly looking to procure their renewable energy from off-site projects.

“Offset” only applies to Grid-Tie Home Solar Systems. A “ Grid-Tie ” system stays connected to the power company's grid. Grid-Tie is great for the homeowner because you are trading kilowatts hours produced for kilowatt-hours consumed.

Many benefits exist for both on- and off-site systems. On-site systems offer a better return on investment because financial savings are across the entire electricity supply chain – costs associated with energy generation, transmission and distribution, market volatility, and environmental costs.
