Germany's power grid ranks among the most reliable in the world, despite an increasing share of fluctuating renewable energy sources. The government has made the extension of the grid a priority to maintain this high level of resilience.

As a result of the field test, a best practice guide for the connection and operation of grid-forming inverters in distribution grids is to be created, which will provide orientation for system manufacturers, project planners, installers and operators as well as distribution grid operators.
Grid forming inverters will play a fundamental role in the power system. Pilot projects are necessary to assess the real impact of grid forming converters. Several demonstrators are currently operating around the world. Each demonstrator has distinctive features related to control and services provided.
In Germany, the maximum voltage transmission grid is owned by four transmission system operators (TSOs) - TenneT, 50Hertz, Amprion, and TransnetBW -, which are responsible for the operation, maintenance, and development of their respective sections of the grid.
