Free QuoteIt plays a central role in enabling wireless communication between user devices (such as smartphones, IoT devices, etc.) and the core network. The base station in a 5G network is designed to provide high data rates, low latency, massive device connectivity, and improved energy efficiency compared to its predecessors.
To cover the same area as traditional cellular networks (2G, 3G, and 4G), the number of 5G base stations (BSs) could be tripled (Wang et al., 2014). Furthermore, Ge, Tu, Mao, Wang, and Han, (2016) suggested that to achieve seamless coverage services, the density of 5G BSs would reach 40-50 BSs/km 2.
The developed model can facilitate the rollout of 5G technology. Due to the high propagation loss and blockage-sensitive characteristics of millimeter waves (mmWaves), constructing fifth-generation (5G) cellular networks involves deploying ultra-dense base stations (BSs) to achieve satisfactory communication service coverage.
Massive MIMO: The use of a large number of antennas allows the base station to serve multiple users simultaneously by forming multiple beams and spatially multiplexing signals. Modulation Techniques: 5G base stations support advanced modulation schemes, such as 256-QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation), to achieve higher data rates.
As networks become more complex and 5G systems require more network coverage, implementing several antenna designs in SBSs presents unique challenges related to performance and compactness. This paper discusses 5G SBS antenna designs that have been proposed recently and studies their characteristics with the parameters that enhance the performance.
Although previous studies have developed many optimization models to solve the BS location optimization problems in 2G/3G/4G cellular network planning, a robust and spatially explicit optimization model that considers the propagation characteristics of 5G signals for the location optimization of 5G BSs is still lacking.
