Free QuoteThis research work aimed to analyze the prospects for photovoltaic solar energy in Colombia. In the results, as a first measure, a conceptualization of solar energy, the development of photovoltaic panels, and the conditions required for installing this type of electricity generation module were carried out.
At present, the polycrystalline and monocrystalline modules are mainly used in the rooftop or ground photovoltaic systems, the monocrystalline module has the good power generation yield and save the cost of land or rooftop with the same installed capacity.
Currently, photovoltaic systems are mainly based on the use of Amorphous Silicon, which has low efficiency (4–11%), is economical, and has good behavior against temperature, although there are also other alternatives such as Monocrystalline Silicon (m-Si), which has higher yields (15–21%), is more reliable, although it has a higher cost.
In this sense, Ovalle (2014) highlights the use of Silicon cells in photovoltaic panels as one of the most demanded options to take advantage of the technology for converting solar energy into electrical energy, which, as is already known, comes from the collision of photons on free electrons arranged in silicon crystals.
Despite this, Colombia has a uniform solar radiation potential throughout the year, calculated at 4.5 kWh/m 2, making it a potential alternative for generating electricity through photovoltaic systems.
In this sense, Serrano (2017b) carried out in Colombia an analysis of the use of solar energy for the future of the country as part of the general concern for the increase in the emission of polluting gases into the atmosphere and that it can boost energy supply through renewable sources.
