Typically a tunable matching network is used to transform the varying load into a ciency and impairing transient response. This thesis presents the design, physical prototype, controller, and experimental results of a high-frequency variable load inverter architecture (referred to as HFVLI) that can directly drive widely variable loads.
Multilevel inverters are gaining significant traction in high-power, medium-voltage applications due to their distinct advantages over conventional two-level inverters. These inverters offer improved power quality, reduced harmonic distortion, lower voltage stress on switching devices, and higher efficiency.
From these results it is evident that the HFVLI prototype is successful in the goal of driving a wide load range at high power power levels. rst physical prototype of of a wide load range RF inverter based on the proposed high frequency variable-load inverter topology was designed and built along with an e ciency optimizing controller.
Due to the wide load range in many of these applica-tions the load can not be connected directly to a RF inverter without some sort of mitigation or variable matching. cient inverter is desired. cient system consumes less power, reducing operating costs, and dissipates less power, reducing thermal constraints.
By analysis of the design, operation, and performance of leveraging different topologies such as cascaded H-bridge and flying capacitor inverters, the research demonstrated their suitability for high-power applications, including renewable energy systems, electric drives, and power grids.
